Food Grade Poly Pouches

Plastic Food Grad Poly Bags & Pouches

Food poly pouches are specifically designed for safely storing and transporting various types of food. Unlike regular plastic bags, food grade poly pouches are made from plastics that will not leach chemicals into foods or beverages. Thus keeping the food safe.

In order to be considered food grade, food packaging bags need to be made from materials that are FDA approved for direct food contact. The most common plastics used are polyethene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). These plastics are non-toxic, odorless, and chemically stable.

Food grade plastic poly bags and pouches have many important uses, especially in the food industry. Here are some of the main ways these bags are utilized.

1) Food Storage & Transportation

The number one reason to turn to food poly bags is for safely storing and transporting food. Restaurants, grocery stores, and food manufacturers rely on these bags and pouches to keep ingredients and products fresh during shipping and storage. Plastic bags and pouches create an airtight seal that locks in freshness and prevents contamination. Ensuring the product tastes the best once it reaches the consumer’s hand.

How Food Grade Poly Pouches Are Made

To ensure food grade poly pouches are safe for food storage and handling, they go through a rigorous manufacturing process.

The first step is selecting materials that meet strict FDA regulations for food contact. Only plastics specifically approved for food use are allowed, which includes polyethylene (PE) pellets.

The next step is when the material is heated and extruded into a molten tube, which is blown into a bubble. This bubble is squeezed and rolled into plastic sheeting. During the extrusion, there is the addition of additives like anti-static agents and UV inhibitors. These additives are utilized to improve the functionality and shelf life of the bags. And of course, these additives are also FDA approved.

Next, the plastic sheeting is then printed, cut, and sealed into bags of various sizes. Throughout the conversion process, the bags go through multiple quality checks to make sure there are no tears, holes, or other defects before being packaged for sale.

In order to maintain food safety, the entire manufacturing process is carefully controlled and monitored. All of the equipment and surfaces are sterilized on a daily basis and workers follow strict hygiene protocols. Factories that produce food grade poly pouches are also subject to frequent audits and inspections. Further ensuring all FDA codes are being upheld.

By following rigorous standards and practices, food grade poly pouches can be safely used to store, transport and preserve a variety of foods. When used properly and according to guidelines, these standards help reduce food waste and support a sustainable food supply chain.
